Artwork statement

One hundred words for one hundred years of longing. Artists of this region have carried their work through a century of longing: for space, for audience, for a place that does not ask them to leave. UntitledRoom gives that longing an address. It is a digital artwork in the form of a website, where each Room is an immersive world built around one artist's voice, documented, exhibited and permanently theirs. The Rooms are visited like performances and kept like paintings. The site itself is the finished work. Built by CReActive Collective, it is a playground for the curious.

Origin story

They were born in the same country, in the years before it broke apart. When the war came, they found themselves on opposite sides of it. Melisa still carries shrapnel in her leg. It beeps at airport security, a small metal reminder of what nationalism did to her generation. Dragan is Serbian. For years, the shrapnel did what it was designed to do: divide people by faith and nation. What it could not divide was their love of art and a shared spiritual curiosity. Out of that grew reconciliation, trust, and finally UntitledRoom: a place where every artist gets a room of their own, with no checkpoints at the door. CReActive Collective is Melisa Begagić (Bosnia & Herzegovina) and Dragan Pavlov (Serbia).

Bio

CReActive Collective is an artistic duo behind UntitledRoom, a digital art concept where immersive online Rooms give artists a space to exist on their own terms, and the website itself is the final artwork. Melisa Begagić from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Dragan Pavlov from Serbia are bound by a spiritual connection that shapes the work. Moving across art, performance and technology, the duo treats the region's long tradition of longing, movement and reinvention as raw material. CReActive is an open playground for the curious, a movement in the making, connecting artists from South-East Europe into rooms of their own. Its first Room was built with the composer Janja Lončar from Belgrade.
